I’m going to be honest, I had never heard of this word before I began blogging, but once I came across it I knew it was the perfect way to characterize my blog. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, a dilettante is:
“An admirer or lover of the arts; a person having a superficial interest in an art or a branch of knowledge; dabbler”
For a little bit of etymology, the word dilettante comes from the Latin word delectare, meaning “to find delight in”, as well as the Italian word dilettare, which also means “to delight in”.
Why a Runaway Dilettante?
I chose to call this blog – and by association, myself – a runaway dilettante because my interests do not lie solely in the arts, and I like to dabble in many other areas such as fitness, food, and crafting. I am breaking the mould of the traditional dilettante, if you will; running away from the conventional meaning.
I hope that makes sense.
